Round-up of the current stories – JT, Hartson, and a new R10

By: Rob | July 13th, 2009

Turning his back on Chelsea?I’m sorry I haven’t been around, much of late. Not only has it been exceptionally busy in Real Life, I was also asked to help set up a film website with a friend, but also nothing’s really been happening. Man, I complained last season when there was the Euro’s without England, but I forgot just how boring a summer without an international tournament is.

Anyway there have been a few small stories that might turn into bigger stories, so I thought it would be a good idea to round them up here.

Starting with John Terry. Daryl posted a big post on the front page about how Citeh were wasting their time, but with the England Captain refusing to rule out a move in public, it has led to even Chelsea fans nervously questioning his motives.

There are only two reasons why he might be keeping his mouth shut: a) he wants more money from Chelsea, or b) he wants to move to Manchester City. I suspect the former. Either way it doesn’t exactly reflect well on the guy.

I have to be honest, if I was Chelsea manager, I’d take £40m for JT in an instant. With a body as ravaged with injuries as his, he’s not going to be around forever, and there’s never going to be a better time to get that much money for him.

And alright, so he’s what the Italians would call a Symbol of the club. But the thing is, for all represents for Chelsea off the pitch, maybe its time to let him go. I only say this because I think Chelsea need to break free of the Mourinho era. It has seemed sometimes that the players have struggled to get over José, and when asked who the best manager he’s worked with, JT would time and time again go back to Jose.

Besides Lampard would be a great captain anyway.

The most fascinating thing is why Man City are bothering. They’d have more luck going in for Rickie Carvalho who is, arguably, better than Terry, cheaper, and looking for a move away from the club. Alright so he’s not the big name that Terry is, but if they are serious about next season, Rickie is surely the man.

Elsewhere, Andrea Pirlo is playing the exact same game with Milan. I think Pirlo should leave Milan, they need to rebuild, and he’s been lacklustre of late. But he has alot of quality, although I dunno if he’d be quick enough for the Premier League, much as I like the guy.

Man United are in contact with Gremio over The New Ronaldinho (ie he’s Brazilian and plays for Gremio) although Man United’s £7m is a bit short of their £21m estimation of him.

Liverpool players might be breathing a sigh of relief today. The often robbed bunch might note that the thieves seem to have moved over to Manchester, where Federico Macheda was robbed.

In sad news, after complaining about headaches, former Arsenal, West Ham and Wimbledon striker John Hartson has been diagnosed with Cancer. Thoughts are with his family and friends, and we wish him all the best.
