Open Thread: Who do you want your club to sign this summer?
By: Rob | June 20th, 2009
So the transfer season is well and truly upon us. Santa Cruz is finally going to Manchester City, Tevez is about to leave Manchester United (Though not the city entirely, perhaps). So I thought I would open this up to all you Offsiders. Who do you want to see wearing your colours next season?
It can be as faniciful or realistic as you like of course. But if you were in the managers chair who would you sign?
I’m unattached to any club in the league, but there are a few players I would love to see plying their trade on these shores next year.
It’d be nice to up the number of genuinely world class players in our top league, what with the World Footballer of the Year off to Spain. So someone like David Villa would be ace. Of course he’s likely to stay in Spain, more than likely at Madrid.
Samuel Eto’o always has rumours attached to him (although he could be going to Inter) and he’s always entertaining (On and off the pitch). Thetalk has been of Man City, but any team that wants goals, could be for him. Ibrahimovic has had a hefty pricetag attached to him by Inter, but if he sulks enough, he may get his way out of Italy, and I for one would love to see him over here somewhere. His reputatation is about zero in England as he’s never done it in the Champions League, it’d be good for him to show everyone who doesn’t watch Serie A what the fuss is about.
Ribery of course is another, but Man United have seemingly ruled themselves out of that race what with him now being 26, so that only leaves Chelsea. Whether they do spend the kind of money Bayern will want remains to be seen.
The hype around Karim Benzema seems to have died down a bit, but he is very special indeed. Could be Man United’s ideal replacement for Ronaldo, as he can play wide AND score goals.
Silva, the Valencia winger is another like Villa who could be gone from that club in the summer, and he definitely has the talent to make it in the Premier League. He’d fit right in at United or Liverpool.
An outside choice maybe, but Diego Forlan. I always liked him when he was at Man United, and after a few seasons proving he actually is a great scorer it’d be a great story if he came over here and put “Diego Forlorn” out of everyone’s minds for good. Maybe could be a good player up front with Fernando Torres at Liverpool.
Pirlo as well is a player I’ve always admired. Things seem to have gone a bit stale for him at the San Siro, so I would really love to see him over here. Chelsea have enough central midfielders, but he could fill the gap next to Fabregas at Arsenal.
Anyway enough from me, who do you think your team should be signing?

i’d like to see united sign silva and albiol from valencia…and benzema. i think you’re right about villa staying in spain unfortunately. ibrah will cost way too much.

i know this isnt in the prem but i would kill to have giuseppe rossi alongside giovinco in turin.

I support United and although I am excited for the prospect of seeing new players, I am even more excited to see our youngsters step up. Much has been said about this crop of youngsters (or strikers at least) and I think if we go and sign Benzema, it’ll wreck their development. I would like one of Valencia and Villa though I know Fergie won’t go for both.

I want Manchester United to sign Alexandre Pato

-

I also want United to sign Pato

if united signed pato i don’t know what kind of bender i’d go on. that would be ridiculously amazing

Well I’m a Manchester United fan, and personally I’d like David Silva (I’m also a Los Che fan, so if he has to leave at least he can leave for United), and Benzema (or Villa, but I don’t think thats happening)

Liverpool – David Silva, Gonzalo Higuain
United – Karim Benzema, Igor Akinfeev, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Pato, Giovinco
Arsenal – Rafael van der Vaart, Andrea Pirlo, Huntelaar

we will not be signing Forlan. that is all.

-

Want Tottenham to sign RVN personally.

LIverpool need to pick up at least Silva. My dream would be Silva and Ezequiel Lavezzi. Imagine Silva and Lavezzi on the wings with Gerrard in the middle supporting Torres. A dream come true.

Wolves – Michael Mancienne
As long as Terry stays put at Chelski we might be in with a shout…even if it is on loan.

wolves need the cardiff pair joe ledley and ross mccormack, also seydou doumbia who bags loads of goals.
