John Terry and Nemanja Vidic will both miss the upcoming Chelsea/Man United match as both were sent off in today’s games. Terry was sent off towards the end of Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Manchester City, which to no-one’s surprise was opened with a Robinho goal against the club he almost signed for. Vidic meanwhile was sent off in the dying minutes of United’s 2-1 loss against rivals Liverpool.
New signing Dietmar Berbatov got off to a great start setting up Carlos Tevez within 3 minutes. After Van Der Saar flapped at a cross he lost a bit of confidence, and then punched the ball at Wes Brown forcing an own goal. Man United never regained thier confidence and Liverpool dominated the second half, the winner coming from substitute Ryan Babel.
Arsenal meanwhile thumped Blackburn Rovers 4-0. England hero Theo Wallcott didn’t get on the scoresheet, but he did provide a couple of assists as Emmanuel Adebayour picked up a hat-trick, breaking his season duck.
Newcastle failed to impress in the first game of the second post-Keegan era as they lost 2-1. The city was brought to a standstill beforehand, in protest at Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise’s leadership at the club.
Wigan and Sunderland drew 1-1, and the Gianfranco Zola era got off to a shaky start as West Brom beat West Ham 3-2 in a thrilling match at the Hawthawns. Portsmouth got past Boro 2-1, while Fulham beat Bolton by the same score.
