Who Do You Think Will Cope Best If Promoted? Vote!
By: Wayne Farry | April 30th, 2009Okay, so if you’re being exact, I am talking about the Championship here, but by August it’ll all be very very relevant.
Basically, we all know that Wolverhampton Wanderers are already promoted. But the final automatic spot is still up for grabs, as is one playoff place. The Championship is a wonderful league, and one which doesn’t often get the credit it deserves. I, despite being a huge EPL fan, would much rather watch a top-of-the-table Championship clash than a mid-table EPL game. The quality is just as good when comparing those two examples, and there is a lot more passion at the top of the Championship than in the middle of the EPL.

The beauty of this stage of the season is that often, pretty much anything can happen. First off, this weekend Reading host Birmingham. Brum sit second in the league while Reading are fourth, three points behind Brum and two behind late bloomers Sheffield United. If Reading beat Brum at the weekend then they’ll automatically go ahead of them. Brum were in a great position last weekend, but lost 1-2 at home to Preston. Anyway, regardless of if Reading beat Brum, it kinda all depends on Sheffield United, if Reading beat Brum and the Blades still win then the Blades go up.

Keeley is pulling for the Royals, she makes a pretty good argument!
So from where I see it now, Sheffield United and Reading are favourites ahead of Brum for second place. I just can’t see Brum beating Reading at the Madjeski.
In terms of the playoffs, Cardiff (who play the Blades at the weekend) are the only side guaranteed of a playoff place without the chance of an automatic spot, so they’re alright. Burnley however, are sitting in sixth place, just two points ahead of Preston. Burnley host Bristol City (who’ve nothing to play for) at Turf Moor while Preston host Barnsley at Deepdale. While Bristol have nothing to play for, Barnsley have a lot to play for, they’re in a perilous position and need just a point to stay up. So by logic, Burnley should have an easier game than Preston.
So basically, aside from all these possible variations in positioning I have one question. What other two sides (besides Wolves) do you think would cope best in the EPL?
