Will Tony Adams Cut It?

Adams to take Pompy JobTony Adams is about to be unveiled as the new manager of Portsmouth, following reccomendation from Harry Redknapp. The former Arsenal defender is expected to make First Team Coach Joe Jordan his Number 2.

The big question is – Will Adams be able to do the business? His previous managerial experience amounts to getting Wycombe relegated from League One. Having said that, that was his first job, and perhaps he has learned alot in his experiences in between – coaching reserve sides in Holland, and being ‘Arry’s Number Two.

The thing that will no doubt be on Adams mind is the ‘Sammy Lee Effect’ – Bolton were doing rather well under Sam Allardyce, so he left to join a bigger club in turmoil (Newcastle in this case) and left his Number Two to fill his boots. Except he almost got Bolton relegated from the Prem.

I can see Adams being given more of a chance though, just because he’s still a bit of an English hero (1996 and all that), and hopefully for Portsmouth he can carry on the job that Redknapp has been doing – they’ve got a big game coming up against Milan.
