Weekend musings – Great for one side of North London!
By: Rob | November 23rd, 2009
Fireworks for one half of North London over the weekend, as Spurs stuck Nine goals past a weary Wigan Athletic side. Jermain Defoe scored five goals in the match which MEANINGLESS STAT ALERT has only been equalled in the Premier League era by Andy “Call me Andrew” Cole and Alan Shearer.
Wigan were lucky to only ship nine incredibly, as Spurs wasted plenty of first half oppurtunities (See the MOTD2 coverage here). The other side of North London was not celebrating.
Arsenal, they often look the best team in the league. They play the nicest football, and this season, where last seasons frontrunners look a bit weaker than before presented them with a great opportunity to make a good run at the title.
But something seems to always hold them back. They lost at the weekend against Sunderland, thanks to a Darren Bent goal. Its not usually the sort of game that a team of Champions would lose. (Though the other contenders have all already lost similar games that you would say that about. What does that tell you about this title race? The Big Four’s power is dwindling, perhaps).
Speaking of the Big Four, the supposed big challenger to that is Manchester City, and they got a draw against Liverpool at the weekend, a result neither side will have wanted. It leaves City sixth and four points behind that last Champions League spot, and Liverpool a point behind them.
Chelsea and Man United meanwhile have no such worries, as both sides coasted to victories against Wolves and Everton respectively. They are now the top two sides in the table, although Arsenal have a game in hand and so can catch United, while Chelsea have already got some leg room with a five point gap. It is looking rosy at the Bridge.

Wouldn’t have though Arsenal would miss RVP so much. First game in ALL competitions that they haven’t scored in…
