The White Stuff
By: Rob | January 7th, 2009
And I don’t mean snow. Today, cocaine is all over the news. Apparently, according to The Independent, not only are two footbal league players about to complete ‘Secret Bans’ after testing positive for cocaine, but one Prem player has been sent on his way to a London drug clinic, for fears that he might also fail a drug test.
This isn’t the first time of course, that this has happened in the Prem. Chelsea told Mutu to clean up his act, or they would call in the drug testers themselves. He didn’t, they did, and he was promptly sacked and handed a £14m bill. Whoever it is obviously is taking heed of Mutu’s story.
Indeed, whoever the mystery star is – perhaps he is a good friend of Lily Allen? The pop star claiming today that people can take the class A drug and still function in the morning.
I think its interesting the surprise and scandal that this is potentially causing. Young, absurdly well-of, men, go out on a night out – I would be surprised if a fair few players hadn’t dabbled in drugs, especially one so associated with the party lifestyle. Indeed, go in the right crowd on a Saturday night, and the drug is rife – I wouldn’t be all that shocked to find out some pro’s are users.
Of course, they shouldn’t be. If a player was at my club and was doing something that could damage their game, I’d be mighty pissed off above all. So while its a stupid thing to do, perhaps its not all that surprising that some of them are tempted to dabble.
To be honest, I think they should take Grandmaster Flash’s advice:
