The PFA Shortlist – Have your Say

By: Rob | April 15th, 2010

cescrainThe PFA Player of the Year shortlist is out, and this year it consists of just four names (instead of the usual six). The PFA award is xvoted for by fellow professionals, and players naturally see it as more worthwhile than the Football Writers Footballer of the Year (which the public seems to pay more attention to).

Anyway, the shortlist is exactly who you would probably think it is. Its Rooney, Fábregas, Drogba and Tevez. For my money, bang on the four best players in the Premier League this season. Have your vote below as to who you think ought to take the award.

Rooney is presumably the favourite – even though United are now all but out of the title race, and knocked out of the Champions League. Mind you, Rooney couldn’t be blamed for those lapses, he was injured, which more than notes his influence on the team.

Being English in a World Cup Year means Rooney has got more attention that ever, and he has more than delivered. Stepping up to the plate with Ronaldo in sunny Madrid, Rooney has almost single handedly dragged that United team to the position they’re in. And without him they look lost.

Cup of African Nations Aside, Didier Drogba has had a great season too. He’s only got one less goal than Rooney, and he spent a good few weeks out in Africa. 25 goals is a great return at any rate, and Chelsea look like they are going to ease to the title with Drogba firing them forward.

Arsenal have suffered when Fabregas has picked up knocks, but there is no doubting his influence when he’s been on the pitch. After a quieter year last year, he’s back to full throttle, and 15 goals from midfield is a fantastic return. Throw in 15 assists (he’s top of that particular chart) and you possibly have the most influential player in the League.

Tevez was obviously centre of attention with his move across Manchester in the summer, but he’s consistantly looked like City’s best player. The side looked like they were struggling a bit for goals when he was away from the team for personal reasons, but he’s the main reason City are still well in that hunt for fourth. And at the weekend he’ll have yet another chance to send a message to Sir Alex.

So who are you going to go for? Votes below please.

Kevin Doyle! (not really, but he deserves some recognition for all that hard work)

Kevin Doyle – the campaign starts here!

But only if he promises to go to West Brom.

If West Brom have got another Steve Bull, then maybe we could do a swap?

You can have Simon Cox and see how he turns out? How about it?

    convenient, isn’t it?

Surely he deserves to be England’s hero, those headers looked so difficult, Ronaldo couldn’t have done them any better. :P
