Four Men Left in West Ham job running
By: Rob | September 8th, 2008
Last week I reported to you Offsiders that West Ham had a shortlist of 30 managers who could be the next Hammers boss. This morning the Guardian is reporting that wishlist is down to just four serious candidates now, and they include Croatia Manager Slaven Bilic.
Danish legend and ex-Getafe manager Michael Laudrup is apparently having an interview today, Chelsea and Parma legend Gianfranco Zola is also in the running along with ex-Italy boss Roberto Donadoni. Roberto Mancini and Gerrard Houllier are thought to be out of the running.
Bilic meanwhile has apparently only met West Ham through intermediate sources, but is thought to be keen to be considered for the job, as long as he can free himself from his Croatia contract. He is on a very small wage for his country so it seems likely West Ham could afford the compensation. The Croatian FA will not let the manager be distracted before the big game against England on Wednesday.
Zola has become a surprise favourite because he plans to bring an all out attack tactic that was missing under Curbs, and because he is so beloved in this country, no just by chelsea fans.

Rob – although I’m hoping we’ll see Terry Venables show up soon, Gianfranco Zola is certainly an good choice and would operate an exciting attack. Would he leave Italy for this position though given the lack of financial commitment? While I know he doesn’t want to leave his post, it would also be great to see Stuart Pearce at the helm.

Can’t imagine (really, believe) that Zola would be managing West Ham, but I think he will be fantastic.

btw, you can cross Michael Laudrup off the list.
Chris – I’m in agreement with you on this one.

Why would anyone choose Spartak over West Ham ? I think Laudrup would have been a perfect fit but Zola will also be a nice choice. Let’s hope he really does bring attacking tactics and not the same old Italian ones. http://eurosoccerdaily.com
