My Right To Boo
By: Rob | October 12th, 2008
Yesterday, England played against Kazakstan and ran out 5-1 winners, but not before a hideous bit of defending from Ashley Cole. After the game, Don Fabio was a bit miffed with England fans to proceeded to boo at Cole every time he got the ball afterwards. Rio said they should be ashamed.
Now, leaving aside the fact that Ashley Cole is quite a despisable personality, and that he’s earning stupid amounts of money, which is the key thing he’s interested in, what he did was abysmal. There is literally no other word for it. I think England fans were quite right to boo him.
Look at it this way – if you did that in the park on a Sunday with your pub team or whatever, you would be yelled at, by your keeper, by the people watching on the sidelines, by your teammates. You just don’t do it. He has to either put it into touch, or head it back up the pitch first time. Why should the reaction from the crowd by any different at the highest level that it would be at the lowest?
I’m generally for positivity with regards to England. The recent booiing of Lampard is ridicukous and he has done absolutely nothing to deserve the nastyness that he seems to have gotten for a) having a bad last world cup b) playing for Chelsea c) earning lots of money – those things could apply to much of the side.
But when someone makes what is, a schoolboy error, you have to let him know that he can’t get away with it. And if subsequent managers won’t, then the fans have to. Fabio, I reserve my right to boo. It doesn’t need to carry on to next game, but I just think for the next few touches of the ball, he shoudl be reminded that it isn’t good enough, it wouldn’t be good enough in Sunday League, it sure as hell isn’t good enough for England.

The Telegraph’s Henry Winter was part of the Sky’s Sunday Supplement and he pointed out that the banners which were held up at the Wembley come from the lower leagues. His take is that the fans from the lower leagues are not impressed with what is going on in the EPL.

Despisable personality haha, he is such a scumbag but because he is a footballer it is tolerated. You make a mistake you get scolded, move on with it.

Lampard deserves no sympathy — I’ll never forget him shoving a ball boy last season, nearly knocking him down. It was also sickening watching him and the media milk so much public sympathy from the death of his mother. Cole is even worse — he deserves to be booed any time he’s on the pitch.

Booing is daft. Really daft.

Yep. That’ll help matters. We’ve seen at Wolves what booing does to a player’s confidence (see Andy Keogh), and all this stuff about players being paid ‘000’s or millions of pounds doesn’t rub. It’s not constructive.
The next time Theo Walcott makes an error in an Englad shirt, or Gerrard, I take it we’ll be expecting the same from you?
