Zola is the new Hammers boss
By: Rob | September 11th, 2008
Gianfranco Zola has been confirmed as the new boss at West Ham having agreed a three-year deal with the club. The former Chelsea star will talk to the press within the next hour. He edged out former Italy manager Roberto Donadoni for the job, despite the latters experience thought to be due to an impressive interview, his personality, attacking mentality and the fact that he is almost universally loved in the UK.
Interestingly, out of the Ruud Guillt managed 1997-8 Chelsea team, 15 have tried thier hand at management, including Mark Hughes, Roberto di Matteo and Gianluca Vialli. Zola issued a statement last night annoucing his leaving from his current job, the Italian U21s. In the statement he said:
βIn these two years [working with Italy Under-21] I put a lot of effort into the job and I did my best,β he said. βI learnt a lot, I can only hope it will be useful.β
West Ham fans will be hoping he is as much a genius off the pitch as on it, although he has not shown it yet.

I never thought I’d see the day . . .I still can’t believe this one. I think he will make a fantastic manager, but West Ham?
