Spurs complete van der Vaart move
By: Rob | September 1st, 2010
It was the big story yesterday, two hours before the transfer deadline and just after the Dutchman’s move to Bayern fell through, Harry Redknapp swooped and tried to pick up Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid for a measly £8m. Everyone was a bit unsure whether he got the deal done on time, but it has officially been ratified by the Premier League, so he’s all good.
The dutch midfielder has very much been second choice at Real, but he could give Spurs a bit of stability in the middle of the park that makes him a really good buy for Redknapp.
Side thought – must be weird as a footballer on transfer deadline day. You’re negotiating moving your whole family out to Germany or whatever, and then that falls through, so you’re still in Madrid, and then two hours before the deadline, you find you have a chance to go play and live in London. That’s presumably alot to process so quickly if it really works as we’re told it does.
Anyway, VdV brings a whole load of top tier experience to Spurs (captaining your country during the World Cup Final, doesn’t get bigger than that), and £8m seems absurdly cheap these days. Be interesting to see how he settles in.

The premier league really need to come out and clarify what took so long. Aside from Spurs fans everyone knows this transfer was a complete joke.

London calling for Vaart. Pls do what u can not to make him fat, pls.
And good luck with him, he can make Spurs better.

Spurs were basically linking with everyone this last transfer window. I can’t help but get the feeling that very little thought goes into their transfer strategy. The media seem to publish stories about great new talents appearing in France, or Russia, and immediately Daniel Levy is sniffing around.
This latest transfer of Van Der Vaart smacks of collector’s syndrome. They don’t need him. Luka Modric is basically the same player and arguably more talented. I can’t see where he’s going to fit in. Is it not just another case of stockpiling players?
Redknapp and Spurs fans will probably argue about strength in depth – but nether he nor Modric will be happy about playing second fiddle. Moving from the bench in Madrid I assume Rafa will have demanded assurances of first team football to take his family to London at the last minute. If he doesn’t get it, he’ll be pissed. If he does get it, and doesn’t adjust to the Premier League, he’ll be dropped. Either that or Modric won’t get a game and become annoyed.
Don’t try and solve a problem you don’t have. Look at where your problems are. For Spurs, it is still their defence.

Van der Vaart’s choice to leave was a good decision. he’d get more exposure in the <a href="http://www.kick2010.com"premier leagueand with liverpool’s game declining, he’d do better with the spurs. good move for him, good move for the spurs. good luck to them!
