Hand of God..to..er…Portsmouth?
By: Rob | July 23rd, 2009
Its the silliest thing I’ve heard in ages (at least since the old Sven-to-League-Two thing) so I absolutely have to post it, even if there is absolutely no truth in it whatsoever. Naturally I hope it does have some truth in there. Diego Maradona, Argie idol, man who single-handedly knocked England out of the 1986 World Cup, wants to leave his post as manager of Argentina, and take on the job at…Portsmouth.
Not only does he want to leave a side in with a shout of winning a World Cup, but apparently he’s already decided which players he would want to buy, if he was to get the job. Which he hasn’t actually apllied for yet, but has expressed an interest via “emails”.
It seems close-season boredom is spreading around the world.
Lets be honest, its a silly rumour. But I like it, its outlandish enough to be interesting. It would be fantastically odd if it happened though, I mean Diego has absolutely no reason to leave a dream job to come over here. Unless he’s got his eye on a boatload of money.
It would be interesting to see if he could attract world class players too, just on his reputation and of who he is. Maybe he could have a world with Agüero?

Would any English club worth its salt realistically want the man who knocked England out of the World Cup by cheating? And he doesn’t exactly have a stellar coaching record. Who do you want in the headlines – your team’s play or your coach mouthing off?

It would be interesting to see but doubt he will be a success even if he does sign
