Joe Kinnear to undergo Heart Surgery

By: Rob | February 11th, 2009

Its all going wrongWe haven’t talked about the North-East’s favourite soap-opera for awhile – unfortunatly it took a distressing turn, as apparently when Joe Kinnear was taken to hospital this weekend, it was because he needs to undergo an Op on his heart.

All jokes aside, We wish Joe the best and a speedy recovery.

The Newcastle boss will aparently undergo the knife this week, after hearing from his cardiologist yesterday that he wasn’t suffering from high blood pressure, which was the original diagnosis.

Kinnear has originally planned to return to the dugout by the end of the month, but now will face at the very least a two-month spell away from the game while he recovers.

Not sure what this means for Newcastle, in a year that appears to be going from bad to worse. In the intrim, Chris Hughton will take over assisted by former Spurs defender Colin Calderwood, but obviously that is a short term fix. Hughton has looked a touch out of his depth in the Prem so far, and Newcastle are not really in a position where they can spend two months losing games.

It made me laugh a couple of days ago when I read that Newcastle have a Five-Year-Plan to emulate Villa. Why do Newcastle plan for anything? It seems like everything and anything will go wrong for them anyway.

Can anything get worse for them?

It’s awful. Hopefully he’ll be okay.

When I heard on Sky Sports that he had high blood pressure I still had a feeling it was more serious, what with all is previous problems.

Sadly, I think that this could be the end of his managerial career. Hopefully not, but I can’t see him coming back into the fold after this.

    Get well soon Joe.

wayne- i think he can. i mean he’s got to really take care of himself etc etc after the surgery. plenty of people recover very well from heart surgeries. even if he doesnt come back as a number 1 he can deff show up as a number 2 as the pressure and stress would probably lower and better for his health. i dont think he’s been professional in how he’s acted this year, bit of hothead eh? but i think he does know what he’s doing when it comes to what’s going on on the field and hope he sticks around the game in some facet. good luck to him.

I hope he does too. But he’s a passionate guy and if he does come back to football he’s going to be the same as when he left, hot-headed and probably stressed to the max. I really hope he returns to football, in any part of management, but I just can’t see it.

I would consider this the least surprising news of the century.

Imagining what comes next: “Joe Kinnear, now in newer, mellower form!” With, y’know, press conferences that only use the C word twice. Or maybe three times, tops.
