Ronaldo picks tunnel-fight with “Rubbish” Steven Taylor

Ronaldo, injured againAt half time in Man United’s 2-1 win against Newcastle United, Cristiano Ronaldo decided he wasn’t going to stand for being kicked about any longer, and picked a fight with Newcastle defender Steven taylor after the latter had bought him down in the first half.

In what was truly a battle of wits, Ronaldo went up to Taylor on the way to the dressing room and called the defender a “Rubbish footballer”. Luckily the Magpie could find a worthy riposte, and said that at least he “isn’t ugly”.

Ronaldo responded with a killer strike, calling Taylor a “poor footballer”, Taylor, feeling flashbacks to the school playground said “well you’re still ugly”. The two then entered into a scuffle, and United captain Rio Ferdinand had to seperate the pair.

Its all very childish stuff, but the one person it reflects well on is Rio Ferdinand. My how he’s grown up in recent years. Can you imagine the Ferdinand of missed drug tests and lurid sex-videos being the mature one in any situation?

Perhaps its signing for Manchester United. Sir Alex always talked about how he wanted to get Gazza, and that he would have made him a bit more sane, and it seems that with Ferdinand he’s shown it. Rio undoubtedly in recent years has really stepped up to the mark, and he’s been vital to United this season, without any doubt.

Ronaldo meanwhile it seems has not. Ok the tackle was undoubtedly rash, but Taylor was booked for it, there’s nothing anyone can do after that point. I know from playing that it is frustrating when your chopped down, but you can’t go an sulk only to have a go at the guy at half time.

The real sad thing, in my view is the lack of wit. “You’re rubbish”, “OH YEAH! WELL YOU ARE UGLY”! Its hardly the mark of Oscar Wilde now is it.

I think I had a similar argument with a guy after an under-12 match years ago.

Absolutely ridiculous. Taylor was rubbish yesterday though, so Slave’s right on that one.

I thought Taylor’s comeback was pretty good. It’s not all about threats and profanities: when you’re _that_ vain I can see this hitting a nerve.
