United (finally) get thier man, while City trump everyone
By: Rob | September 1st, 2008
Dimitar Berbatov has finally completed move to Manchester United, but the real story of the day belongs to thier local rivals Manchester City who have trumped Chelsea and to everyone’s surprise signed Brazil international Robinho. Just yesterday the winger was sending love sonnets to Chelsea, but after Manchester City were bought out in the early hours today, the Eastlands club bidded for everybody on earth – including Berbatov – and managed to sign Robinho at the last minute.
The Brazilian will be earning €6m a year after tax, and Manchester City’s new owners will pay 42 million euros for him.
Berbatov meanwhile has been confirmed to press as I’m writing. The Bulagarian striker has long been the transfer target of the season for Sir Alex Fergie, but at one stage this morning Mark Hughes looked like he had trumped his old mentor with the signing. Spurs kicked up a fuss proclaiming that they hadn’t agreed anything with United, but it seems like everything is in place now, with Frasier Campbell going the other way on loan.
