Buffon: “I’ll Join Man City….for 250k a week”
By: Rob | December 12th, 2008
Gigi Buffon has come out and told his agents to make a move to Manchester City happen, assuming the Eastlands club come out and put their money where there mouths are. The Juventus keeper, who joined the Turin giants for a world record fee in 2001, was presumed to not be interested in a move away from Italy, but has today said that if Manchester City were willing to pay the amounts they were bragging about, he would gladly join, knowing that Juve could build a team of champions without him.
Buffon, long considered the best keeper in the world (I’ve never seen him make a mistake, to this day), stuck with Juve through their drop to Serie B, despite whispers of a move and an exodus of his teamates. It therefore seems odd that this story should come around just a couple of years later.
£250k a week would of course make Gigi the highest paid player in the world, by quite some distance, the current highest is Robinho at £160k a week. Juventus are said to be baffled that the Manchester Club is still considering despite the height of Buffon’s demands.
“If a club is willing to pay that much money for you I will tell my agents to make the deal happen.
“With that money Juve can go and buy a team full of champions of their own.”
So there you have it. It might cost even more money that Roman’s Rubles, but maybe City can build a team quicker than we thought.

No he won’t. He’s already one of the most paid players of the squad, he’s starting a family in Turin, and he’s our captain-apparent after Alex Del Piero retires.
His agent talked to Tuttosport and said that quote is completely falsified and that he has heard no contact and that Gigi has no intentions to leave.

He just extended his contract a few months ago. I predict he’ll stay at Juventus for 4-5 more years and finish out his career at Genoa, the team he supported as a kid.

Even if the quote was true, it would seem he was just messing with them, like taunting them or whatever. Anyways, didn’t he stay in Juve because they went to Serie B? I thought he was supposed to leave that year but didn’t, just so he could help them go to Serie A again.
