BREAKING NEWS: Robinho Walks Out Of City Training Camp!

By: Wayne Farry | January 20th, 2009

City missed out on one Brazilian today, are they about to lose another? According to the Daily Mail, Robinho has walked out on Manchester City’s training camp in Tenerife. Apparently, Robinho has grown disillusioned with Manchester City and is believed to be in the process of flying back to Brazil.

Is this a reaction to City’s failure to sign Kaká? Kaká’s reasons for not leaving Milan for City were damning, saying that they wanted him for publicity and were too cute in their negotiations. I’m paraphrasing, obviously. Perhaps Robinho has long been unhappy in Manchester and was hoping for Kaká to join to help him settle. Or is it Robinho realising that money really isn’t everything in football?

Of course, this could all just be a storm in a teacup, but it’s worrying. Presumably Robinho, when signing for City had hoped they would continue to acquire top-class players, with the purchase of Craig Bellamy adding to Wayne Bridge’s transfer to City is Robinho feeling that this City project might take longer than he thought?

There could be lots of other factors, his ‘best bud’ Elano has been linked with Lazio and Sparky has made no attempt to play down talk of the former-Shakhtar man’s potential departure.

None of us will know what has really happened here, or why Robinho left the training camp, until more details are released later this morning. So I’m not going to speculate anymore until I get concrete facts.

All I can say is thank God that Craig Bellamy signed today, otherwise it could have looked like a bad day for City..

Supposedly Robinho wanted to return home to celebrate his birthday with his family but Hughes refused to let him go. Not a good sign I admit, but City still has plenty of time and dollars to right the ship

he’s probably a bit miffed that he was promised he’d be joined by some other world-class players then in walked Craig Bellamy…

Wayne – I understand and I didn’t mean to sound bad towards you but I deplore how the source considers this “journalism.” I was alerted by this piece of drivel around the same time but knew that it was another piece of trashy “journalism” that was empty of fact checking.

His absence from the holiday in the sun (Tenerife)is easily explained and partially Man City’s fault because of their lack of administration. That doesn’t make it better but he hasn’t abandoned the club. As City decides to invest in players from around the world they need to expand their administration and ensure mix-ups like this don’t occur.

Yeah, you’re right j. The Mail simply saw that Robinho had left and put 2 and 2 together, coming with a number that wasn’t 4. And you’re right, City have got to sort their admin out. When the story broke, City only fueled the fire by confirming he had left but not denying or confirming there had been a bust-up.
