Shocking News (or not) Hodgson to become Liverpool ManagerBy: Rob | June 29th, 2010
Hodgson has been a miracle worker at Fulham. He took over as the club was staring relegation in the face, before leading them to a last day reprieve, followed by qualification for the Europa League, and then getting to the final of the Europa League in successive seasons.
This won’t be Hodgson’s first go at a bigger club, he’s managed clubs like Inter before. But it will probably be his last. Mind you – how much of a charge Liverpool are going to be able to put on the top four this season after last season’s disaster and Man City/Spurs inevitable spending remains to be seen.
But if anyone can make any side punch above its weight, it is Hodgson, and he will buy cannily (he’ll have to, especially if he manages to keep hold of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres), so this is a great appointment for the club, I think.
It adds a whole new dimension to the race for the Champions League spots. Manchester City seem to be on the verge of confirming Yaya Toure’s signature (exactly the right kind of player for them to be buying), while Spurs are taking a long look at Palermo duo Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani.
Its going to be an exciting race to grab that spot. Who do you see taking it?
