Liverpool and Arsenal make todays Champions League draw
By: Rob | August 28th, 2008
Today the group stage of the Champions League draw will be drawn and I’ll be liveblogging the event over at the Champions League Offside. All four English clubs are in the draw, Arsenal stuffed Twente last night (particularly sweet to see Theo Wallcott get a goal against Steve McClaren’s side) and Liverpool scraped through against a defensive Standard Liege side after a extra-time winner from perrienial European hero Dirk Kuyt.
So who will the English side draw? Well according the absolute madness that is UEFA’s co-efficient seeding, all four of the English sides (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United of course) are seeded first which means they will get all be in theory at least the strongest sides in thier groups.
While they’re are a few minnows in this years draw (Anorthosis Famagusta FC of Cyprus will be wanted by the big teams) there is also bound to be a group of death. Bayern, Roma, Juventus and Porto all sit in the second seed spot, Marseille, Fenerbahce, Celtic and last years UEFA Cup winners Zenit St Petersburg all have third seed spots, and Fiorentina and Athletico Madrid are the fourth seeds everyone will want to avoid.
I’ll see you at 5pm GMT to see who gets whom.
