Do Liverpool actually want to beat Chelsea?

By: Rob | April 29th, 2010

lucas-liverpoolAn odd series of events has conspired to mean that Liverpool could give bitter rivals Man United their 19th Premier League title, gift wrapped. Let us not forget that both Liverpool and United are currently tied on 18 League titles each, much more than anyone else in history.

So Liverpool fans – do you actually want your boys to beat Chelsea and hand United the title at the weekend? Liverpool of course could do with the win in the chase for fourth, but they sit two points behind Spurs and have played a game less, with Man City in the mix as well. So even wins from here on in, its a big ask to take that Champions League spot.

Apparently some Liverpool fans are talking of fielding a joke team to let Chelsea win (featuring, Lucas, left). Ultimately I can imagine Liverpool will want to beat Chelsea, but it will be a bittersweet win if it does hand United the title.

Not that Liverpool have a particular love of Chelsea mind you. The clubs have grown to genuinely dislike each other over the past five years or so, partly due to the whole Old-Money-vs-New-Money arguing, and partly due to the sheer amount of times they’ve been paired with one another in all competitions.

Man United’s win at the weekend isn’t guaranteed, as they are away to Sunderland, a side who just don’t really do losing at home, a hallmark of their relative success in the Premier League.

Man United are still without Wayne Rooney too. So it is possible Liverpool could win and not hand United the title. That’s a less interesting idea though, isn’t it?

United’s more than capable of losing the title all by themselves.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is if Liverpool & Chelsea draw, that won’t do either team any favours. ‘If’ United win then they would go ahead of Chelsea, whilst Liverpool would lose ground on the Champions League.
That is worst case scenario for Liverpool I think

History repeats itself, Chealsea may not have won at anifield since Mourhinho left, save for only 3-0 Champions League deafeat last season b4 losing it all to man u,but still Liverpool side has nothing so much to pursue since Man C ,Spurs and VILLA may make it not even to appear in the Europa itself.mAN UNITED wininig it 4th back to back doesnt only hurt but toches where it hurts most, not again, not this time, remember boys, some of us have bet our money on you, Go ma Boys, go for it with a true BLUE BIG HEART….
