Miserable weekend for Arsenal and City, EPL Roundup.
By: Rob | September 28th, 2008
Wigan completed a horrible week for Manchester City this afernoon as the Eastlands club went down 2-1 against Wigan. City had two penalty shouts waved away by the referee. The club lost in midweek in the Carling Cup, and they couldn’t bunce back today.
Spurs also had a miserable weekend, losing 2-0 to Portsmouth. England strikers Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch got the goals. Arsene Wenger couldn’t even remember the name of the side that beat his Arsenal side this weekend, calling Hull “West Brom”. The newly promoted side managed a 2-1 win against the Gunners, and if Wenger wants to title challenge again he is going to have to sort out losing to the small clubs.
Gary Megson was left reeling after Cristiano Ronaldo won a penalty during the Champions 2-0 win over Bolton. He described the call as “a nonsense descion”.
Aston Villa are still flying high, picking up a 2-1 win against Sunderland on Saturday. Villa are now up to third in the EPL, and must be wondering about nosebleed protection.
Fernando Torres got two goals as Liverpool saw off local rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby. David Moyes has only won two games against his inner-city rivals, showing just how far Everton are from breaking the top 4.
Gianfranco Zola’s good start continues as he picked up a 2-1 in over Fulham at Craven Cottage. West Brom picked up a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough.
Newcastle’s woe continues as they lost to Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle join Spurs at the foot of the table.
Chelsea picked up a hard win against Stoke, 2-0.
