Will Hiddink still be Chelsea Coach come September?
By: Rob | February 11th, 2009
So as you will have seen, Guus Hiddink has taken on the Chelsea job untill the end of the season, also doing his Russia job at the same time. He’s basically paying back Roman for giving him the Russia job.
Doubts have been raised (notably from Daryl and Chris) about just how temporary the apointment is going to be. So I thought I’d throw it open and see what the majority of you guys think.
On the one hand, If Chelsea do well this season – and there will have to be a bit of a turnaround to achieve what Roman considers “Doing Well” – he probably will be offered a new contract.
But will he take it?
He has managed double duty before, but has said in recent times when the Chelsea job has come up, that he wouldn’t want to go back to club management as its too much like hard work. So, has that much changed since he was given the job in the summer?
On the other hand, he is who Roman really wants. He plays attractive football, is successful, and has done great things with unfancied teams before. As England and the The Rest of Europe found out last year.
I don’t know. I can’t see him keeping both jobs for some reason. So if he was to take on the Chelsea job, I think it might be at the expense of the Russia job, oddly.
Anyway, its over to you. When the new season kicks off for 09/10 will Guus still be in the Chelsea hotseat?
will Hiddink be in the Chelsea job in 09/10?

I see him doing his bit for Chelsea and then continuing full-time with Russia.
He seems like a man who doesn’t like to stop until he’s finished. It strikes me his Russia project isn’t finished and I think he’ll stay with Russia until after WC2010.

I love how journalists like to forecast the future, get of ahead of events to come while there are unresolved problems. I think not to impune your work that th question is not “will Hiddink be in the Chelsea job in 09/10?” but instead can Chelsea regain form, find confidance, play like the best team in Europe as it did against Man U in the Champions League, win the EPL this season, annihilate Juventus and win its first ever Champions…thats the series of question I like to see analyzed. What kind of coach is Hiddink to be and can he do what no other coach in Chelsea’s history has done.
Chelsea is long overdue for its first Champions League!
All the best to Guus Hiddink…Go Chelsea!!!Posted from

The answer to most of those questions is “probably not” though, isn’t it?

The EPL “License thugs” suck!!!We want the Teams Logos back!!!How come La Liga, Calcio, French Club Federation,Bundesliga… find no problem with the tags, yet the EPL objects to the free use for the general public? I have read the explanation by Daryl, although the comments are disabled…but quite truly EPL SUCKS!!!
I am going to start rooting for La Liga and against the EPL and England!

I say no. Sacking Scolari and bringing in a part-time replacement (no matter how good he is) has to be a mistake by Chelsea. Even if Hiddink wins on Saturday and brings the club some silverware, who is thinking about building for next season? Certainly not the person who will be in charge.
Rob, what do you think? I would love to hear what you have to say at View from the Terraces, where I blogged on the Hiddink debacle yesterday.
Cheers,
Charlie
