Villa, Ancelotti, Kaká, Lord Lucan, Jesus all possibly heading to The Bridge
By: Rob | April 10th, 2009
All the transfer window seems to have achieved, is making press coverage of potential transfers last for ages. Last season I made the mistake of thinking the transfer window looked quite interesting, with potential moves for Berbatov, Ronaldo, Lampard and Barry. Sadly they were all rather dragged out and untill the thrilling last day, a bit dull.
This summer, it seems the focus is on under-achieving Chelsea, who the press seem to think are going to go through a massive transformation this summer, after a year of more impatient underachieving.
So the rumour mill is again full with whispers of David Villa to come and score them some goals, of Carlo Ancellotti to bring back the glory years. Those are the two more realistic ones, I’ve seen everyone from Kaká to Ronaldinho (again) linked with a move to the club. Who next, Lord Lucan? Jesus*?
What Chelsea actually need of course, is a new manager to come in and pretty much start again. Something evidently isn’t quite right, and selling a few names and bringing in some different ones could be the way forward for the Blues.
I’m not entirely sure Ancelotti is the man for that. He seems quite loyal to big names – witness the aged genius of the Milan side, and with situations like the Beckham one, the suspicion must be that he’s willing to accept who the board will buy. Which Roman will undoubtedly love, but on the other hand, I’m not sure how good it’ll be for the club. Ah well, Shevchenko might actually get a game…
Villa however, I’d love to see over here. The world’s best striker for me at the moment, he could prove absolutely deadly in the Premier League. Mind you, we all said that about Sheva. Hopefully Villa would have a bit more success.
Anyway, my point is Roman has to realise (like Man City do) is that he can’t literally buy success. He can buy the ingredients to make a successful team, but he’s still going to have to leave it a while if he wants to get results. Is he going to find anyone he can trust enough to leave them to it? The reason Jose was a success, is that he had the sure-mindedness to hold Roman at bay. I’m not sure who else will be able to do the same.
*Tasteless Easter Joke: I hope Jesus doesn’t play in goal – I hear he has holes in his hands.

I think Jesus would be a decent keeper – he’s great on crosses…

That’s pretty much what they’ve already done.

Oh Touché Joe. Touché.
Mike – Yeah certainly. But I think over the last few seasons they’ve shown its not a cast iron guarantee, which is what i was trying to get at I suppose.

i think Villa’s display against england is testament enough to his ability, I’d imagine that he would do more than okay at Chelski, although I’d much rather see him in a different team’s shirt… maybe he and Torres can join up for the Pool, or maybe if Wenger got him i’d imagine that he’d do well at Arsenal. As long as he doesn’t end up at ManCity I’m okay with his move, although looking at how much they were willing to pay for Kaka makes me think that they’d be the best suitors as far as Valencia are concerned.

To be honest, I’d just be happy to see him over here. The press is going on and on about how we’re losing valuable assets to la liga in the summer, Ronaldo and Cesc for example, but it would be great to see us get one of theirs. And he is one of the best, no doubt.

This makes me sick. First of all Chelski is a club with no history and now that we’ve got that out of the way, Villa said yesterday in a press conference that he wants to see out the remainder of his contract with Valencia. He’s one of the few players who has heart in this day and age and I want to see him do well because of it.
You can’t buy success, it’s true. As much as I hate United, nothing made me happier than seeing them lift the CL trophy last year because despite all that crazy mafia money that Abramovic spent, he couldn’t even buy the most prestigious trophy in all of Europe.
Villa would never go to the scousers because 1) They were haggling over a few million quid for Barry which means they’re obviously not financially well off at this point and 2) Because Villa and Torres aren’t really that good of a partnership anyway. The reason Torres does so well at Liverpool is because of Gerrard playing off him, when was the last time he scored for Spain? Not recently, let me tell you that much.

Anthony, typical ignorance.
So you’re telling me we’ve tried to buy success, and United haven’t? Laughable. Absolutely laughable.

United has history, they’ve been a solid club for many years with records and silverware to prove it. Not that I like United by any means because I don’t at all, but I acknowledge that they’re an extremely successful side. United buy success? Please do elaborate on that one.
Pre-Abramovic Chelski was an average club with the occasional top 6 finish. Nothing spectacular at all. Now though all of a sudden Chelski have a global fan base with millions of glory hunters waiting to hop on board. Just wait till City start buying their success, all the Chelski glory hunters will be jumping ship to support City!!
