Chelsea can’t buy anyone untill 2011, says FIFA
By: Rob | September 3rd, 2009
Crazy big news coming through, as Chelsea have been banned from registering any new players untill 2011, according to a FIFA ruling today. They apparently “illegally induced a French youth team player of joining the club”
“A restriction of four months on his eligibility to play in official matches is imposed on the player Gaël Kakuta while the club FC Chelsea is banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision,” said the DRC. “Furthermore, the club, FC Chelsea, has to pay to RC Lens training compensation in the amount of €130,000.”
If this sticks, you can imagine the ramifications are huge.
It means, basically that even if Chelsea buy anyone over the next two years, they can’t register them, and thus they can’t play for the club at any time during that period. Effectively, they will have the same sqaud they have now (assuming they sell no-one) untill 2011.
I mentioned earlier in the season that it seemed there was a bit of staleness in the Chelsea camp, and though they have started well, if that comes back to haunt them a little bit, the club could fall into a slump.
However, this could be the motivational thing that Carlo needs, to create the Us Vs Them mentality that José Mourinho so successfully installed at the club.
But in the long term, even if Chelsea powered through the season, and lets imagine they won the Premier League and the Champions League, its hard to imagine they would go and do it again with the exact same squad. So they seem destined to flounder for the time being. Its going to be really interesting to see how this plays out.

whatever you all may think, itll be overturned and theyll only miss january, who cares then anyways… my question is whose next on the chopping block for sepp? it couldnt be Real Madrid, whom are probably the biggest villains in such acts.. i guess this is just another lukeworm oddly placed warning to big clubs(other than madrid) especially english clubs, Sepp doesnt like what is going on, and hes gonna throw grenades in everybody’s tents until he gets what he wants, not like its a world cup year or nothing like that…..
by the way, martin, who do you support , with such a great academy, im gonna assume its arsenal, whom are no more than poachers themselves, they are merely the kind who go after them real young, like child molestors.
in conclusion, f*ck sepp, f*ck fifa, and f*ck you all, we still take the treble this term

I love it that the Chelsea fan, whose club bought that nitwit Ashley Cole (which academy brought him along again?) from us, is criticizing any other club, especially Arsenal, as being “poachers.” Then preceded to call us child molesters and drop a couple of f-bombs for good measure–that club does attract a certain element, doesn’t it?
In all seriousness, though, I hope Jack’s head didn’t explode or something when he heard the news, because I can’t wait to read what he thinks about this…

Rob, Chelsea is actually not the first club to have been hit with such a punishment. According to what I found from the BBC website, there is already a precedent – http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/8236187.stm
You get the feeling Chelsea will most likely to appeal but still, the punishment FIFA had handed out to them…wow.

well man u can just wait for a similar decision to come out on them from one of their relatively recent shady signings, and arsenal, well, who cares, theyll fall apart by februry like they do every year, we still got the best squad in the EPL, we still got first place, and we r still gonna win it all, and once this is overturned, we’ll be spending after south africa

They will appeal. Yet it sounds like the fairness curse of Adrian Mutu!

as a chelsea fan this punishment seems harsh. but too be honest i’m not that worried we have a superb squad more than capable of competing at the highest level for the next 16 months. It might also be the perfect catalyst for introducing some of our promising youth players. Bring it on FiFA, do your worst!

Man United are rumoured to be the next ones that they are looking at so the Man Utd fans shouldn’t get too cocky quite yet

I signed up with these guys – http://www.statesidetv.net All I had to do was email info@statesidetv.net
Best games are shown on Fox Soccer Channel and Setanta – got fed up with the lack of decent quality P2P streams that were ‘here today and gone tomorrow’. I can also watch the Saturday afternoon Premier League games not shown in the UK. I have a SlingCatcher, so I can watch the stream on my 37″LCD TV at a very watchable resolution. Keeps the wife and son quiet too, she gets all her Lost and Desperate Housewives long before they are shown here and he gets all his MLB and NFL games. Saves me forking out for an ESPN/NASN subscription!
