Rover and Out – Who next for Blackburn Job

By: Rob | December 16th, 2008

Guv Nor given the bootSo Blackburn Rovers have given Paul Ince the boot, just months into his unsuccessful tenure as Blackburn Rovers coach. The reason’s are simple enough – he’s not winning, and hasn’t been doing anywhere near as well as Mark Hughes was doing last time around.

The big question then, is who is going to jump off the managerial merry-go-round next and take the job of keeping Blackburn in the top flight? A few big names have already been linked in the press. Sam Allardyce apparently ruled himself out due to his connections with Blackburn’s rivals, Bolton. Roy Keane has obviously been talked about as he is currently without a job. Alan Curbishley could also be in the frame, as he has been out of work since leaving West Ham at the start of the season.

But the favourite, oddly, is the man I nominated as one of The Worst Managers the Prem has seen. Former Blackburn boss Graeme Souness is apparently in the frame.

I have to say,I think it’d be a terrible mistake getting Souness in. People are talking about him giving players a kick up the arse, which he is good at, but I would imagine Paul Ince would have been capable of that. You can’t bring in a man with very little tactical nouce, a history of upsetting players, and a string of useless buys in the transfer market, when you’re in trouble. Can you?

Perhaps he’ll prove me wrong, you never know. I do think Blackburn should look elsewhere. Other than my doubts about Souness himself, I do have doubts about going back. Just ask Kevin Keegan. It also seems quite pointless to sack one mad mindfielder-turned-manager for another, slightly more experienced one.

Souness last spell at Rovers yielded good and bad. He won them promotion back to the Prem, and the Carling (Worthington as it was then) Cup. But he sold Duff to Chelsea, alienated Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and David Dunn, and unfortunatly lost Matt Jansen to a Motorbike accident. His replacements for the players that he lost were uninspiring to say to least.

So, Blackburn fans, and everyone else, who do you think will take over? And who should?

I think if they are smart they should try like hell to get keegan, or keane. because quite frankly i’m in agreement on souness, he would be a huge 50/50 chance and i don’t think blackburn should take that kind of chance. now curbishly could do okay, but i don’t know whether he, keane, or keegan would be into the challenge. All i know is that with any of them over souness you have a much better chance of a result that you’re looking for.

To begin with there’s no question that due to the current scenario it has to be an experienced manager! Our gambling time has ended, the playground is full or dirt and we definitely need someone capable of cleaning the mess left by Ince’s adventure, just in time to save Rovers from relegation. So, forget Alan Shearer, it’s better to remember him has the Legend we became, is and will be, than of the Legend who became part of the disaster. He doesn’t have any managerial experience. On the other hand Sam Allardayce is out of question due to his former connection with Bolton. I don’t like his style and history. Souness or Keane would be also firing up the engine with a gas similar to Ince’s one.
Thus, maybe the club should try approaching Keegan, he has an attacking mentality as well as and attractive style of play… why not giving him a chance?! Any other solution passes by looking abroad! Don’t you think?
