William Gallas, For Shame….

By: Wayne Farry | November 20th, 2008

William Gallas has gone out of his way to once again show us that he shouldn’t be Arsenal’s captain. In the past, Gallas has shown incredible immaturity at key moments such as sulking on the St. Andrews pitch last season as Arsenal’s season fell apart. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Gallas is the captain of Arsenal purely through the process of elimination, even though now it looks like anyone else would do a better job.

Today Gallas has made an attempt to basically save his own hide by spreading the blame all around the Arsenal team. He’s done something that no player should ever do, he’s revealed frictions in the Arsenal dressing room. But to be fair, being the nice guy that he is, he mentioned no names, awww.

It all seems like this is a desperate attempt to deflect criticism towards him as a captain and it once again shows that he doesn’t have the mentality to cut it as Arsenal captain. Gallas also mentions that he had a bust-up with a teammate over something on the pitch.

He gives no names but he says that the player is 6 years younger than him, Gallas is 31 which makes the unnamed player 25. This got me thinking of what Arsenal players are 25. There are only four; Eduardo, Eboue, Van Persie and Sagna.

Good work on the discretion Willy.

It’s pretty sad that Gallas is the way he is. I look at captains in the EPL, John Terry, Gerrard etc. and what I see are individuals that demand respect, not because they’re good players but because they’re resources on which the rest of the ream can draw for motivation. I see the aforementioned players put themselves on the line for the team and often take the team on their backs when the chips are down. I don’t think Gallas is that type of person. He doesn’t possess that quality. Kolo Toure would be my choice any day for the captaincy.

I think Fabregas would make a great captain. Like Gerrard, I think he’d thrive on it.

I argee, Cesc would make a great captain. He’s already looked up to by many of his team mates for leadership as well as proving a leader on and off the field. Evenmore, Arsenal is a young team and I believe most players will identify with Cesc more than Gallas. However, I think if boss man were to relieve Gallas of his leadership duties it would prove catastrophic for Gallas, affect his play, and be detrimental for an Arsenal team already running on fumes. I’ve been really ill this week, its good to see you keeping the flag flying Wayne! Cheers, you ought to post here more often anyway.

As for Gallas, well it seems he’s blown it. Which could be bad news for Arsenal because he’s their most experienced player. But you can’t have someone displaying your dirty laundry in public like that.
