So…We might have underestimated Arsenal.
By: Rob | August 15th, 2009
So who thought Arsenal would be title contenders? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Even the Arsenal Offside thought it was wishful thinking. And while one result a season does not make, Arsenal clearly laid their credentials on the table with a 6-1 battering of Everton this evening.
Nothing really happened of note untill Denilson’s stunner suggested maybe he is going to come of age at exactly the right time. Arsenal have lacked a player who wants to hit the ball from range of the last few seasons, but if Denilson can knock a few more of them in this year, they’ll be welcome.
Denilson then turned defender, keeping the ball of the line, before debutant Thomas Vermaelen nodded in to make 2-0 to Arsenal. It became 3-0 with another uncharacteristic ariel goal, as William Gallas headed in a Cesc Fabregas free kick.
Three minutes after half time, Cesc got on the scoresheet himself, and Everton fans began to leave, knowing the game was over. Except, for the Gunners it wasn’t quite. Fabregas got another before trooping off to be replaced by Eduardo who got Arsneal’s sixth. Saha got a injury time consolation for Everton.
Elsewhere, Chelsea left it to a flukey Drogba cross-shot in injury time against Hull to win 2-1, Aston Villa suffered a shock defeat to Roberto Martinez’s Wigan, Man City coasted to a 2-0 against Blackburn after a stunning Adebayour goal, Sunerland and Fulham beat Bolton and Portsmouth 1-0 while Burnley and Wolves both got introduced to the Premier League with 2-0 defeats (to Stoke and West Ham respectively).
Man, its good to be back. Unless your an Evertonian I suppose.

“So who thought Arsenal would be title contenders?”

Arsenal have never started the season so strong and wound up in non-contention. Yes, that’s sarcasm. If this post was about how Everton could be this year’s Newcastle it might be somewhat interesting.

Everton won’t be this years Newcastle though.
Also, you all know I don’t think that Arsenal have won the league now based on one result, but you know they look stronger than we thought is all I was sayin’.

God, I hope so.
But the top 4 change every year, jeez…

On their day Arsenal are possibly the best side in the league but they always get a lot of injuries and don’t always reach their full potential. If Arsenal can sign a couple of players before the end of the window they will be contenders for the league as long as the injuries don’t hit hard.

It’s too early for Arsenal..
This squad is good but can they consistently ..
The injury will come to player.. Hope not Cesc, Arshavin, Van Persie
We just can predict when half of the season..Posted from

I remember being equally impressed with Arsenal when they opened with a 4-0 win at Everton a few seasons ago. No trophies that year and none for a while. They looked awesome but they have at times all through their years without silverware

Arsenal are a demonstration of what football is meant to be. The squad (though stretched a bit thin) is built around superb passing, touch, and vision. I love this team, when they are on they look unstoppable, until opponents start to resort to hard fouls to slow them down. Regardless, Arsenal play beautifully. Go Gunners.
