Silvestre set to make Shock Arsenal Move
By: Rob | August 20th, 2008
Manchester United left-back and bench warmer Mikael Silvestre appears to be close to a move to Arsenal. The Frenchman, who was expected to make a move to Roy Keane’s Man United Rejects, is apparently wanted by Arsene Wenger.
At 31 he would be raise the average age at the Emirates at the very least, and possibly give them that bit of experience that they do need. Earlier in the summer there was rumours he would move to Roma, but the defender wanted to see out the last year of his contract, and they decided they’d go for Riise instead.
Sir Alex told Silvestre however he was surplus to requiremements at the Theatre of Dreams, and the defender seems unlikely to stay at the club – especially now Arsenal are interested.
Nobody has moved between the two clubs since Viv Anderson joined United in 1987.

I’m a gooner and I’m still trying to absorb this crazy news. I can’t even be coherent about it.

Since when does Arsene pick up old guys? Silvestre is approximately fifteen years beyond Arsene’s usual interest level.

They can be over 20 as long as they are French.

I dunno, he’s passed on several quality older French players, including Anelka. Who else besides Gallas has he taken in as an older player?

I think perhaps he’s leant hard lessons this summer from selling a fair few players he’s made. Plus looking at last season, an bit of experience would have helped – Gallas went to pieces as much as the side.
