Lets Talk About Cesc!
By: Rob | November 24th, 2008
21 year old Catalonian Kid Cesc Fábregas is going to have to make the step up to being Arsenal Captain after he was offically given the armband today, although William Gallas will be returning to the Arsenal starting XI. Arsene Wenger was giving absolutely nothing away with regards to selling the French defender in Janruary saying “Suggestions are suggestions”.
Fábregas has been at the club a long while, but while rumours still persist that he wants back to Barcelona, and the fact that he is very young, it is an interesting choice. Having said that, I’m not exactly sure who else Wenger could have chosen.
Cesc’s first game will be the Champions League on Tuesday. Check out the preview here.
Maybe it will be enough to keep Cesc at the club in that case it might be a masterstroke. Last season in particular, Cesc was easily Arsenal’s best player as they mounted an early title charge, and they’ve missed him due to injury and being a bit out of form this season, as they’ve struggled to replicate last season’s form.
So will this be the making of the man? The moment that Fábregas steps up from quality midfielder to Arsenal legend? Time will tell. But they Arsenal players already look up to him. The future could be bright afterall.

Making Cesc captain was the only way to keep him at Arsenal.

“Making Cesc captain was the only way to keep him at Arsenal.”
That maybe true, but I think hes earned it. Hes a good player and isn’t much of a one man team. Hopefully he’ll be good, but if he finds out being Captain is nothing, he might just re-consider barca.

I think the thing is, there really isn’t anyone else. If Kolo was to be made captain, he’d have been made captain already. The only thing going for Almunia is that he’s the oldest, which isn’t really as much of a reason. Clichy, as much as I love him, is really too quiet. Who else is there, if not Cesc?

Semi-agree with JC. If he wasn’t captain, and Arsenal didn’t even get close to the title again this season, I think he would have left. Being captain, I think he’ll stay for at least one more season. But if there’s no trophies at Arsenal for the next two years, and they fail to get close, I think that he comes to Barca.
