Arsenal: No Longer Lacking in SolBy: Rob | January 12th, 2010
Sol Campbell is set to make an incredible return to Arsenal, the former Notts County (and Arsenal, Portsmouth and Tottenham obviously) defender is going to play in the Arsenal reserves, with a view to signing for the club afterwards.
The former England defender left the Gunners after a some what acrimonious seriesa of events, begining with a walk out after bad game against West Ham.
Its interesting to see Arsene Wenger buying players, but its fascinating to see him buy, not only a player well past his best years, but a player he seemed to fall out a bit with in his previous stint at the club.
Arsene though, had this to say:
He has a fantastic attitude and good fitness,Of course he is not the youngest, but he is in a very good shape. He can still play in the Premier League, I’ve said that many times. He is important in the dressing room as well. He’s positive with the young players
So there you go. It is true that Arsenal could do with some experience, just to give a lift to the younger players, and Campbell of course was a part of the invincibles side that won the Premier League undeafeated, so no doubt he’d have the respect of the players.
Wenger also doesn’t really have any centre back options beyond his main two. Silvestre looks shakey, Song is in Africa, and the less said about Senderos, frankly the better. Will it work? Time will tell, but as a substitute, it doesn’t seem a bad choice. You can vote for whether its a good idea, at the Arsenal Offside, here.
