What Are Man United doing? AKA The Times are A-Changing
So Real Madrid have signed Karim Benzema and added to their bid to make the next edition of Pro Evolution Soccer an game which there might as well only be two teams. This transfer might seem out of my jurisdiction perhaps being as he’s moving from Lyon to Sunny Spain, but this transfer actually is really dissapointing from a Premier League perspective.
Benzema of course has been courted by Sir Alex Ferguson since that Champions League game when he announced himself to the rest of the world. So why the hell is he signing for Real Madrid, while Man United are only signing - with the greatest respect - Antonio Valencia?
I find it rather dispiriting that with all those Ronaldo millions currently sitting in an Old Trafford bank account, they aren’t prepared to buy someone obviously full of quality as Karim.

Why I’d like to see Sheva be a sucess in the Premier League
By: Rob |
So apparently despite interest from Roma, Andriy Shevchenko intends to see out his Chelsea contract and prove his worth, assuming he isn’t forced out by the club. Good on him. For a multitude of reasons, I genuinely hope he’s a success, and [...]

Open Thread: Who do you want your club to sign this summer?
By: Rob |
So the transfer season is well and truly upon us. Santa Cruz is finally going to Manchester City, Tevez is about to leave Manchester United (Though not the city entirely, perhaps). So I thought I would open this up to [...]

Common Sense lost as Transfer Market goes a bit crazy
By: Rob |
So, looks like Glen Johnson is going to be back in the big four, as he’s about to sign for Liverpool. Good on him, he’s had a pretty good season for Portsmouth and a great game for England last week. I don’t have a problem with [...]

5 Reasons Why…Looking for Eric is the best Football Film Ever
By: Rob |
Today I got that rare oppurtunity to indulge two of my great loves at the same time, football and cinema. Usually when that happens, the results are really tragic. Football on the silver screen has a very chequered past, but things seem to be begining to change. [...]

What you can buy for £80m
By: Rob |
You might have read that Real Madrid have had an £80m bid for Ronaldo accepted. I thought it might be interesting to note what they could have spent that money on, or indeed, what Man United could spend that money [...]

Ronaldo off to Madrid for £80m. For Real this time.
By: Rob |
Manchester United have, at the behest of the player himself, accepted an £80m bid from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo. Let me be the first to say Eighty million pounds? How fucking absurd.
“At Cristiano’s request – who has again expressed his desire to leave – [...]

Why Setanta Sports going into Administration matters to us all.
By: Rob |
There’s no doubt about the dubious impact that BskyB has had on the Premier League. When England’s top league was merely Division One, no-one thought you could put proper live football on, and get a decent audience. So Sky bullied their way in, gave the league [...]

Chelsea try to hijack Kaka transfer

Well, we should have seen this coming. Despite reports yesterday that Kaka’s move from Milan to Madrid was basically done and would be formalised early next week, reports are coming through from Sky Sports that Chelsea are attempting to move in on [...]

Sturridge deal finally official
It's been official for a while, but now, it's official official -- the Web site says so.
Former Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge finally signed off on a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge on Friday. This comes a day after the Blues wrapped up a deal for goalkeeper Ross Turnbull (RAWSE).

He Crosses the Great Divide, Via Madrid And Newcastle!
So it actually happened. It's been rumoured for a few days, the odds yesterday dropped from 22/1 to evens and now it's happened; Michael Owen has signed for Manchester United. In doing so he becomes only the fourth player since WW2 to play for both Liverpool and Man Utd in his career.
Undoubtedly and almost instantly making him a huge hate figure over at the red side of Liverpool. But who cares what they think? Apparently, before he got the call from Sir Alex Owen believed his only options were either Villa or Hull but once you get that call from Sir Alex, there's only one choice really. It's kinda like that call in Mission Impossible.

How Ruud
So we've all seen the reports and heard the rustle, and now the the flurry of hopes and magnificent dreaming have calmed down, we can look at this a little more objectively.
Big Sam has come out and said he would like to sign Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid. Seriously? Maybe. A declaration of our intent this season and transfer market? Definitely. Maybe seriously for him though.

Daniel, We Hardly Knew Ya...
No new signings to report this week, so let's take a moment to reflect on the senior players who have just been let go:
Darius Vassell: As previously commented in this space,
the former England man did his part in a City shirt, but his role in the club long ago expired. Darius takes his wares to Turkey, unlikely to ever be seen in the Premier League again. A shame perhaps because I think he still has more left in the tank than the man he replaced during the 2002 World Cup defeat to Brazil, Michael Owen. But strangely enough, Vassell is not getting any contract offers from the other club in Manchester. Life just isn't fair.

Re-racking the Backfield
So, with both Glens (Johnson and Little) gone, Lauren leaving, Pamarot out, and Djimi Traore and Jerome Thomas being released -- as well as rumors surrounding both the fates of Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin, who is going to make up the Pompey backfield?
Hreirdarrson has inked his stay, and will ...

RAWSE.
Yeah, I know. Ross -- as in former Middlesbrough goalkeeper Ross Turnbull, our newest signing -- is mispelled.
From henceforth, our new No. 2 between the pipes who just signed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge, will be known as RAWSE in honor of everyone's favorite fictional druglord/correctional officer/rapper Rick Ross. ...

City launch Terry bid, promptly told to f** off
Those baby blue boys on the other side of Manchester have come knocking again. And, again, they're bringing the chocolate and flowers to the door of England's Brave John Terry.
As expected -- like City's initial inquiry in January -- they were quickly told to beat it. This time, however, there ...

Why an EPL Salary Cap is a Terrible Idea
Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis came out today and said that the Premiership should consider a salary cap to stabilize itself financially. He didn't come out and say it, but I think it's pretty clear this has been brought on by Manchester City's profligate transfer fees and wages since the new ownership group has been in place.
It is undeniable that the idea has some superficial appeal.
