Finally see Jan Molby’s mythical Lost Goal
That’s a good goal, isn’t it? Jan Molby scoring for Liverpool against Manchester United in a League Cup tie in 1985. You might wonder why exactly it deserves a blog post on a monday morning 24 years later though. Well, its because Molby’s goal was thought to be lost forever, due to a TV Strike. Far from these modern times when goals are very ready to us, the mid-80s were a different time indeed.
Most had given up on ever actually seeing Molby’s goal for real, and in telling and retelling the goal has found mythical status. But now, you can see and judge for yourself, at long last.
So, might be time for a bit of backstory

Which of the Current Crop might be one-club-men
By: Rob |
Its become a big cliché, that’ll we’ll never see the likes of Ryan Giggs or Paolo Maldini again – players that spend their entire career at just one club. The reasons for this any plenty – and mainly economical.
But as Spain flows with whispers that a [...]

This Weekend Its all About One Match
By: Rob |
Apologies too all the other teams playing this weekend, but this weekend sees out answer to that other big derby match going on, as Liverpool play host to Manchester United.
Last year I focussed on the history of the derby, and if you are interested in [...]

Is Rafa in trouble?
By: Rob |
So, Liverpool suffered a loss again this evening, to Lyon in the Champions League. At the end of the game, Liverpool fans were chanting for Rafa’s head. Now while it isn’t always a good indication, it does say a fair bit about the situation at Anfield.
After [...]

Should the FA do more to protect Skillful players?
By: Rob |So, after just coming back from injury, and then getting a kicking from Liam Ridgewell, Theo Wallcott will be out for yet another three weeks. I like watching good football. Especially when that good football is coming from an Englishman. So I have to ask the question – should the FA [...]

Which Big Names Couldn’t Cut It in the Prem?
By: Rob |
Thank God that’s over. I’m glad England have already qualified for the World Cup and all – espeically after the Umbrella debacle – but not having to get a last minute goal against Greece, or a draw in Rome made this last round of matches even less [...]

How Many Losses Before You Are Out of the Race?
By: Rob |
So, the big game this weekend finished with Chelsea coming out on top, a much needed tonic after their defeat against Wigan last week. The loss means Liverpool have already lost thrice this season, although Rafa Benitez is still confident that Liverpool are still in the title race.
Which got me wondering how many losses [...]

The Liverpool/Chelsea Rivalry
By: Rob |
So its another all-big-four matchup this weekend, as Liverpool take on Chelsea. Its probably a bit to much to ask for a game like last seasons Champions League second leg (above), but it does serve as a nice reminder that not EVERY match between these teams is a dreadfully boring draw.
The clubs have, [...]

Has Petr Cech become a bit of a liability?
By: Rob |Chelsea’s 100% record came to a rather abrupt end this afternoon, after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic. It was quite an even game, but the turning point came when Petr Cech was sent off for bringing down Hugo Rodallega in the box and left Chelsea struggling. So [...]

Poll: 2 CL titles in 5 years?
The bald one, Peter Kenyon, set a goal of winning two Champions League crowns within a decade when he took over as Chelsea chief executive in 2004. Our new chief, Ron Gourlay is upping the stakes.

Tell us your background as a player in Scotland.
My footballing background goes back many years. I was a player in my younger days and I had a number of trials around some of the local teams, but never really made it onto the big stage. I was a big fan of football as well. I spent many seasons following Dundee with my dad. Charlie Cooke was my dad's hero and was at Dundee before he was Tommy Docherty's big Chelsea signing.

Aston Villa v. Bolton
So this is probably the earliest I've ever done a match report (3 whole days in advance) and so I can't link you to the BBC statistics report. You'll just have to go find it yourself, it'll be on this page probably by Saturday. Like I said a little earlier, I'm going over to England and won't have internet until I get back (I'm staying at my grandmother's house and she doesn't allow any technology made after 1972 in), so don't expect any new posts from me until Tuesday at the earliest (there there love, don't pine, you can always go through my archives or go read some of my posts on England World Cup Blog if you miss me too much).
On to football, Aston Villa won't be easy opposition. They're 7 points ahead of us in the table however their last three results LDD. Just this past Wednesday they lost to West Ham, who we beat not so long ago. They've hit a bit of a rut in form, however their squad will be smarting from the defeat and will be welcoming Bolton with something to prove.

Welcome to the Premier League
Arsenal come to Molineux on Saturday at 5:30 for Wolves debut on the newest broadcaster of Premier League football ESPN. And this will be Wolves first game of the season against one of the big guns in the division. In one sense a scary proposition, in another sense an occasion ...

Roma (and the Ref) in the Europa
Stadio Olimpico translated into Spanish must mean Estadio Azteca because my lord that was the most comically biased game I've ever seen refereed.
Funny, I was about to cite the Roma blog here (Daryl, is it kosher to start a cross-Offside blog feud??) but Dan beat me to the punch in ...

West Ham 2-1 Aston Villa
A new hero was anointed on Wednesday when Zavon Hines scored the winner against Aston Villa deep into stoppage time. It looked like another winless night as the game petered out to a one all draws until “Hero Hines” latched on to a pass from Scott Parker.
The first half ...

Arsenal 4-AZ 1; Kroenke on the Brink
Arsenal v AZby nineinchmail
There's not much else to say other than that that was a sublime performance by Arsenal. The trophy draught is frustrating, but honestly, when Arsenal plays like they did last night, dominating another club through sheer skill, technique, and teamwork, it just reminds me how lucky I am to root for Arsenal.

News Round Up
Some pretty pedestrian stuff so far this week, perhaps everyone still in shock after our thrashing on Saturday. First of all a surprising statistic has been released: Bolton's attendances rose last season by 8%, one of only two clubs to see a rise in attendance. I don't know if you ...
